A Way to B is a dansant portrait of several members of the flamboyant, Catalan dance collective Liant La Troca, led by dancer and choreographer Jordi Cortés Molina.
The film’s hybrid style, in which documentary and dance continually merge and diverge, follows several of the group’s dancers as they shape their individual stories in performances. These dancers have physical disabilities: one walks in a steel corset, another is spastic. Some performers are in wheelchairs, one has one leg, another has no legs at all, is blind or sees a little less every day.
Sensual, exuberant and provocative choreographies alternate in the theatre, a square, a forest, a living room. At the same time, the dancers give candid insights into the challenges of everyday existence.
Constructed as an autumn day in and around Barcelona, A Way to B offers an unusual look at human resilience and love.

00:01:07.720 --> 00:01:11.800
Talk, talk, talk.
00:01:11.920 --> 00:01:17.760
We just talk and talk,
without saying anything.
00:01:17.880 --> 00:01:23.080
We say absolutely nothing.
00:01:23.200 --> 00:01:27.880
Empty words...
00:01:28.000 --> 00:01:33.880
...to fill the empty spaces.
00:01:34.000 --> 00:01:39.760
Talking for the sake of talking.
00:01:39.880 --> 00:01:43.040
Talk, about what?
Talk, how?
00:01:44.440 --> 00:01:47.320
The most important thing is...
00:01:47.440 --> 00:01:52.560
...to talk by looking into each other's eyes.
00:01:52.680 --> 00:01:57.160
And to talk by touching.
00:01:57.280 --> 00:02:03.520
What matters most is communication.
00:02:03.640 --> 00:02:05.480
The way...
00:02:06.080 --> 00:02:08.640
The way it's done...
00:02:08.760 --> 00:02:14.360
...doesn't matter in the least.
00:03:08.800 --> 00:03:12.720
These ones? Or these ones?
00:03:12.840 --> 00:03:15.360
Let me see.
Careful!
00:03:48.680 --> 00:03:52.720
...and when she screams,
you wait for eight seconds...
00:03:52.840 --> 00:03:59.520
...before she drops her mask,
and then you're ready.
00:04:06.600 --> 00:04:08.480
Enjoy the ride.
00:04:11.200 --> 00:04:15.040
Fernando, darling, enjoy it.
- Let's see.
00:04:17.720 --> 00:04:21.320
Enjoy the ride. See you later.
00:04:22.760 --> 00:04:27.400
We present Liant la Troca,
with the show Desfasats...
00:04:27.520 --> 00:04:31.760
...directed by Jordi Cortés and Gloria José.
00:04:32.880 --> 00:04:35.520
In an interview they described their work...
00:04:35.640 --> 00:04:42.080
...as a provocative, sensual
and imaginative "bastard dance".
00:04:43.080 --> 00:04:46.760
They are two dance professionals
with long careers...
00:04:46.880 --> 00:04:50.080
...leading the Liant la Troca company...
00:07:20.800 --> 00:07:26.120
Come, Glee, let's explore the park,
we don't know the way here.
00:07:26.240 --> 00:07:30.960
We don't know the way yet.
Let go straight on here.
00:07:34.800 --> 00:07:40.560
These are steps. I don't know
if we should go down these steps, Glee.
00:07:43.120 --> 00:07:44.880
From here, right?
00:07:47.800 --> 00:07:51.760
Don't worry, I'll push.
- Yes, but I have to raise them.
00:07:51.880 --> 00:07:57.680
Just a little.
You can take it a little easier.
00:07:57.800 --> 00:08:00.680
It's not the Olympics.
00:08:00.800 --> 00:08:04.160
It's easier for me if I raise my legs.
00:08:04.280 --> 00:08:08.120
Then raise them.
- I have to lift them.
00:08:08.240 --> 00:08:11.280
I have to exert myself.
- Which hurts.
00:08:11.400 --> 00:08:16.200
Exactly. So I'd prefer to raise them,
then they can relax.
00:08:37.280 --> 00:08:39.600
Where are you going?
- This way.
00:08:40.840 --> 00:08:42.400
What are you doing?
00:09:14.040 --> 00:09:15.520
Thanks.
00:10:07.480 --> 00:10:14.000
People say we come back to this world
because we decided to.
00:10:14.120 --> 00:10:16.360
Because we wanted to.
00:10:16.480 --> 00:10:18.880
If I come back here...
00:10:19.000 --> 00:10:22.000
...I want a strong body.
00:10:22.120 --> 00:10:26.120
I want to be healthy and beautiful.
00:10:26.760 --> 00:10:29.800
I want to run and jump.
00:10:29.920 --> 00:10:33.560
And sure, go round in the air.
00:10:34.400 --> 00:10:38.200
Floating, while I'm dancing.
00:10:39.200 --> 00:10:42.280
Like I've always wanted to dance.
00:10:44.880 --> 00:10:51.520
Why are you laughing, you scoundrel?
What happened? Why were you laughing?
00:10:53.360 --> 00:10:57.560
Shit, Jordi. Was it bad?
00:10:58.320 --> 00:11:04.600
I didn't know we were going to do that.
- Neither did I.
00:11:05.360 --> 00:11:09.640
Are we quitting?
00:11:09.760 --> 00:11:11.640
Let's have a bite.
00:11:12.160 --> 00:11:16.160
We go to the bocadillos.
- We go to the sandwich.
00:11:51.240 --> 00:11:58.040
There are plenty of plates.
- I think there are plates in the cupboard.
00:11:58.160 --> 00:12:03.080
I don't know about bowls.
- They may be here too.
00:12:03.200 --> 00:12:04.640
Shit.
00:12:08.240 --> 00:12:12.320
Look, Jordi, this is it.
I don't know if you can see it.
00:12:12.440 --> 00:12:15.000
I can.
- The audience is here and here.
00:12:15.120 --> 00:12:21.720
Where's the audience? At the front?
- At the front and at the back.
00:12:21.840 --> 00:12:26.760
So there's no audience at the sides?
Just at the front and the back?
00:12:26.880 --> 00:12:28.200
At the back.
- Alright.
00:12:28.320 --> 00:12:31.080
So that makes two.
- Right.
00:12:31.200 --> 00:12:37.680
Desi does her monologue,
the "animals" come in with the bells...
00:12:38.600 --> 00:12:40.760
Museum...
- I thought:
00:12:40.880 --> 00:12:43.960
Bring in the "museum dance" at once.
- Right.
00:12:44.560 --> 00:12:49.360
When Jaume is there...
He will make an impression.
00:12:49.480 --> 00:12:55.640
We've got Iris, Desi, Palomeque, Carla...
00:12:56.120 --> 00:12:58.040
Alright?
- Alright.
00:12:58.960 --> 00:13:03.160
I think we need more bipeds.
00:13:03.280 --> 00:13:08.480
And we still have to look for...
00:13:08.600 --> 00:13:11.760
...a wheelchair dancer...
00:13:11.880 --> 00:13:14.920
...as a replacement.
00:13:15.040 --> 00:13:18.880
And make sure Fernando stays calm.
00:13:19.000 --> 00:13:24.800
Make sure he can cope.
00:13:25.600 --> 00:13:28.240
I am very curious.
00:13:28.360 --> 00:13:31.080
Bye now.
- Bye.
00:13:47.480 --> 00:13:49.680
This book is fantastic.
00:13:52.520 --> 00:13:59.520
I pick up all these different characters.
I really like it.
00:17:17.400 --> 00:17:18.920
Go ahead.
00:17:28.600 --> 00:17:30.880
Let's go to the chemist's first.
00:17:34.720 --> 00:17:36.680
Hello.
- Good morning.
00:17:36.800 --> 00:17:40.040
Hi, Rosa.
- Good morning, Philip.
00:17:43.880 --> 00:17:47.880
Yes. Thank you, my love.
00:18:27.280 --> 00:18:31.360
Darling, I can't do it.
00:18:37.240 --> 00:18:40.800
Yes, I did it. No, I didn't.
00:18:46.800 --> 00:18:49.240
That's it.
00:18:50.400 --> 00:18:51.880
Right...
00:19:02.320 --> 00:19:05.320
I'm going to have a little rest.
00:19:19.040 --> 00:19:21.720
I have a problem
that will always be there.
00:19:24.120 --> 00:19:25.480
My appearance.
00:19:28.320 --> 00:19:30.320
Due to my disability...
00:19:34.280 --> 00:19:36.560
...people are confused.
00:19:39.120 --> 00:19:40.520
They think...
00:19:44.680 --> 00:19:47.520
...I have multiple disabilities...
00:19:51.880 --> 00:19:55.200
...which affect my intellect.
00:19:58.800 --> 00:20:01.200
Because I talk differently...
00:20:05.160 --> 00:20:07.440
...people think...
00:20:14.000 --> 00:20:17.800
...that I don't understand them.
00:20:22.640 --> 00:20:26.600
But it's the other way around.
00:20:29.800 --> 00:20:33.640
It's their problem, not mine.
00:20:38.000 --> 00:20:40.520
Because I understand everything.
00:20:49.720 --> 00:20:52.840
You were born with your disability.
00:21:02.200 --> 00:21:06.320
But I was diagnosed
when I was three years old.
00:21:11.720 --> 00:21:14.720
It was a medical mistake.
00:21:18.680 --> 00:21:20.320
It's as if...
00:21:25.800 --> 00:21:27.880
...your daughter has died.
00:21:29.080 --> 00:21:34.600
It feels as if your daughter has died.
00:21:34.720 --> 00:21:37.520
For parents it's very hard, of course...
00:21:37.640 --> 00:21:43.800
...to find out after three years
that your daughter is disabled.
00:21:47.600 --> 00:21:49.360
It's like mourning.
00:21:55.640 --> 00:22:02.400
I've been psychologically mistreated
all my life.
00:22:10.800 --> 00:22:16.080
When I was 34, for instance...
00:22:22.600 --> 00:22:26.760
...you had to be home by 10 p.m.
00:22:26.880 --> 00:22:30.800
If I came home any later,
the door was locked.
00:22:30.920 --> 00:22:38.000
And they often refused to let me in.
00:22:38.120 --> 00:22:40.640
They often refused to let you in.
00:22:43.800 --> 00:22:48.880
Yes, I know. It's not just any old story.
00:22:52.080 --> 00:22:56.880
We weren't yet together then.
- No.
00:23:00.080 --> 00:23:01.880
It's a little...
00:23:03.640 --> 00:23:04.760
Yes.
00:23:21.400 --> 00:23:23.880
And sometimes we combine...
00:23:24.000 --> 00:23:29.960
...straight movements
with undulating movements.
00:23:31.480 --> 00:23:33.000
Make it clear.
00:23:48.880 --> 00:23:55.880
Make clear if it's an undulating movement
or a straight movement.
00:24:26.000 --> 00:24:27.400
That's it.
00:24:32.000 --> 00:24:34.720
And now everyone with their bodies.
00:24:59.960 --> 00:25:06.400
Years later, my mother told me...
00:25:06.520 --> 00:25:14.280
...the doctors didn't want to show her
the baby when I had been born.
00:25:16.760 --> 00:25:21.480
My mother kept asking
why she couldn't see her baby.
00:25:25.200 --> 00:25:30.600
They told her, "He was born
with a certain handicap."
00:25:30.720 --> 00:25:37.880
"It's best if you don't get to see him yet."
As if I was some horrible monster.
00:25:44.800 --> 00:25:48.800
When she finally got to see me...
00:25:48.920 --> 00:25:54.280
...she just took me in her arms.
00:25:54.400 --> 00:25:57.160
I was her son. No problem.
00:26:06.160 --> 00:26:12.280
I'll tell you what happened the other day
with the van, when I got stuck...
00:26:12.400 --> 00:26:15.600
You know the van's ramp?
- Yes.
00:26:15.720 --> 00:26:22.680
When I went to La Troca on Wednesday,
I couldn't...
00:26:22.800 --> 00:26:29.120
At first I thought the battery was flat,
but then I saw that the light was still working.
00:26:29.240 --> 00:26:33.360
You have this manual system
to open the doors...
00:26:33.480 --> 00:26:38.080
...but you have to unscrew the door
to be able to use it, and I can't reach that.
00:26:38.200 --> 00:26:41.560
Even the mechanic
had trouble reaching it.
00:26:41.680 --> 00:26:44.880
Look, this was an old chassis.
00:26:45.000 --> 00:26:51.680
I replaced all the electronics myself.
I made some changes on the outside...
00:26:51.800 --> 00:26:56.320
...so it doesn't look so clinical.
- Nothing clinical about it.
00:26:56.440 --> 00:27:03.760
I want to show that it doesn't have to look
like an orthopaedic aid.
00:27:34.200 --> 00:27:40.040
The ground was very wet.
I was walking on crutches.
00:27:40.880 --> 00:27:48.480
I slipped and broke the head of the
thighbone of my most fragile polio leg.
00:27:50.200 --> 00:27:53.240
As a result, I couldn't move my body at all.
00:27:54.640 --> 00:27:59.480
I had to try and find peace of mind.
00:28:31.080 --> 00:28:35.440
It's very hard
to keep this crazy world in check.
00:28:35.560 --> 00:28:41.000
I used to get angry quickly
and get carried away.
00:28:43.480 --> 00:28:46.520
Today, when I see the wolf...
00:28:47.400 --> 00:28:54.120
...when I see the wolf's ears approach,
I'm better able to control my anger.
00:29:00.760 --> 00:29:06.280
For me, the main reason for dancing...
00:29:06.400 --> 00:29:11.440
...is to give society an example
of diversity in functioning.
00:29:15.960 --> 00:29:23.520
The fact that people see us dancing
is a message without words.
00:29:27.760 --> 00:29:32.320
When I see people crying
at our performance...
00:29:32.440 --> 00:29:36.120
...I'm actually a bit disappointed.
00:29:38.520 --> 00:29:43.920
We're not after pity. We're creating art.
00:29:44.040 --> 00:29:46.680
If the art makes you want to cry,
then cry.
00:29:46.800 --> 00:29:53.280
But if you cry because you see
someone in a wheelchair dancing...
00:29:53.400 --> 00:29:54.840
...fuck off.
00:32:05.400 --> 00:32:07.840
I was at the orthopaedist...
00:32:07.960 --> 00:32:09.680
...when this elderly lady came in.
00:32:09.800 --> 00:32:15.800
I was looking at a magazine,
but I noticed she kept staring at me.
00:32:15.920 --> 00:32:19.360
I kept leafing through the magazine.
00:32:19.480 --> 00:32:24.400
She says:
"Hey, girl, what happened to you?"
00:32:26.680 --> 00:32:31.400
None of your business.
- So you see...
00:32:32.320 --> 00:32:38.200
"Well, madam, years ago
I robbed a bank..."
00:32:38.320 --> 00:32:40.680
"...then the police came..."
00:32:40.800 --> 00:32:45.800
"..and shot me in the back."
Looking at the magazine all this time.
00:32:48.320 --> 00:32:52.120
How did she react?
- She believed me, because...
00:32:52.240 --> 00:32:56.520
I just kept reading the magazine
while telling the story...
00:32:56.640 --> 00:32:59.800
...and I saw her look at me
from the corner of my eye.
00:32:59.920 --> 00:33:04.200
"You mean you were in the bank
when the robbery happened."
00:33:04.320 --> 00:33:06.880
"No, no, I was the bank robber."
00:33:29.000 --> 00:33:34.120
This part stays open,
so I can still do something with it.
00:33:34.240 --> 00:33:38.720
I like these flowers.
They look like open artichokes.
00:33:38.840 --> 00:33:42.120
You have this type and this purple type.
00:33:42.240 --> 00:33:46.960
I have all kinds of different colours.
00:33:47.080 --> 00:33:52.200
If you see this artificial grass,
these plants, the tropical shower...
00:33:52.680 --> 00:33:57.280
And I decided to use them to build this.
00:33:57.400 --> 00:34:01.960
How does the water run?
Where do you get the water from?
00:34:02.080 --> 00:34:03.960
Here to the right.
00:34:05.800 --> 00:34:07.360
Brilliant!
00:34:08.720 --> 00:34:11.920
You want to shower?
- I feel like having a shower.
00:34:15.240 --> 00:34:16.200
In short...
00:34:17.840 --> 00:34:22.400
It takes days, weeks, months
to build this...
00:34:22.520 --> 00:34:27.240
...to work out how, how, how...
00:34:27.360 --> 00:34:31.080
Alright.
- It was a problem I had to solve.
00:34:31.200 --> 00:34:36.040
At one point I couldn't fit it
in my head anymore.
00:34:36.160 --> 00:34:43.000
Then I thought I could record my ideas
on a voice recorder...
00:34:43.120 --> 00:34:48.320
...instead of making drawings
or constructing a scale model.
00:34:48.440 --> 00:34:54.120
I split it into parts: the background,
the first wall, left, right, the ceiling...
00:34:54.240 --> 00:34:56.520
I put it all in a separate folder
in my head.
00:34:58.000 --> 00:35:03.400
You have to visualize everything in your mind.
To be able to see the whole.
00:35:03.520 --> 00:35:08.800
How else are you going to do it as a
blind man, without a floor plan, without help...
00:35:19.520 --> 00:35:20.920
Perfect.
00:36:15.120 --> 00:36:17.040
When I show people...
00:36:18.120 --> 00:36:20.160
...the first thing they say is:
00:36:20.960 --> 00:36:25.560
"Incredible. This is impossible
if you can't see."
00:36:26.520 --> 00:36:32.360
What can you say when they say this?
"Surely you can see a little?"
00:36:32.480 --> 00:36:36.120
"No, I can't see anything."
"That's impossible."
00:36:36.240 --> 00:36:38.000
"No..."
00:36:39.120 --> 00:36:43.760
"That's impossible."
- People are so obstinate.
00:36:43.880 --> 00:36:46.960
So then they call me a liar.
00:36:47.080 --> 00:36:51.680
They say you're pulling their leg,
it can't be true.
00:37:33.840 --> 00:37:38.040
I'm surrounded by others, yet I'm alone.
00:37:39.440 --> 00:37:42.120
I'm alone. I feel lonely.
00:37:48.040 --> 00:37:51.360
Because I can't see anyone,
no one sees me.
00:37:52.640 --> 00:37:55.000
I'm the Invisible Man.
00:38:03.680 --> 00:38:10.280
This is a clear passage
through lots of theatrical stuff.
00:38:10.400 --> 00:38:12.200
Lamps and things.
00:38:12.320 --> 00:38:15.320
This is the theatre, with the stage.
00:38:15.440 --> 00:38:18.320
The audience is to the left.
00:38:18.440 --> 00:38:22.800
To the right,
there's a black wall at the back.
00:38:22.920 --> 00:38:25.720
This is the edge of the stage.
00:38:25.840 --> 00:38:31.040
The drop is about half a metre.
00:38:31.160 --> 00:38:35.360
I have no idea what the others do.
No idea.
00:38:37.080 --> 00:38:40.760
I have to remember the whole performance
by heart.
00:38:42.520 --> 00:38:45.000
So they all follow me.
00:38:46.000 --> 00:38:48.720
Because I know everything by heart...
00:38:48.840 --> 00:38:51.400
...they all look to me.
00:41:38.000 --> 00:41:42.400
That's the first note,
and that's these three fingers.
00:41:44.360 --> 00:41:46.640
That's right.
00:41:52.040 --> 00:41:54.160
Look, we bring these together.
00:41:55.680 --> 00:41:57.160
Very good.
00:42:11.160 --> 00:42:13.200
You ignored me completely.
00:42:13.320 --> 00:42:17.200
I wrote to you from the start,
but you ignored me.
00:42:17.320 --> 00:42:19.800
I thought we had hardly talked...
00:42:19.920 --> 00:42:24.920
...but you had actually told me
that you'd been married for ten years...
00:42:25.040 --> 00:42:29.120
...that your relationship had finished
and that you were Catalan.
00:42:29.240 --> 00:42:31.720
Your photo on Facebook was awful.
00:42:32.720 --> 00:42:36.800
You were full of prejudices.
- I was, coming from Madrid.
00:42:36.920 --> 00:42:40.280
You were going on
about being independent.
00:42:40.400 --> 00:42:46.600
I thought, a man who's ten years older than
me, in a wheelchair, Catalan and divorced.
00:42:46.720 --> 00:42:49.440
And I completely ignored you.
- The wheelchair...
00:42:49.560 --> 00:42:55.000
Because you can walk so well,
you didn't want someone in a wheelchair.
00:42:55.120 --> 00:42:59.640
I was full of prejudices...
00:42:59.760 --> 00:43:03.800
Look, I wanted a big, strong man...
00:43:03.920 --> 00:43:06.120
...to carry me to the beach.
00:43:06.240 --> 00:43:08.000
In the end you found him.
- Yes.
00:44:29.400 --> 00:44:30.640
Take this.
00:44:31.920 --> 00:44:33.880
Now you have to lead.
00:45:07.200 --> 00:45:08.120
Careful.
00:46:28.920 --> 00:46:32.760
I'm stronger.
- You're choking me.
00:46:32.880 --> 00:46:34.720
You have no strength.
00:46:48.120 --> 00:46:53.480
The doctor told my mother
I would lead a vegetative life.
00:46:53.600 --> 00:47:00.000
That I would spend my life in bed.
Well, it's not that bad, is it?
00:47:00.120 --> 00:47:04.720
The doctor was a little wrong, wasn't he?
Just a little.
00:47:05.920 --> 00:47:11.400
Look, this is my parental home.
This is where I grew up.
00:47:11.520 --> 00:47:15.800
My room was up there to the right.
00:47:15.920 --> 00:47:19.360
It was normal for me
to crawl upstairs on my hands.
00:47:19.480 --> 00:47:22.560
Obviously there was no lift or anything.
00:47:22.680 --> 00:47:30.520
Every day I used my hands
to go up and down the stairs.
00:47:31.880 --> 00:47:37.880
Up until I was five or six
I thought all children were like me.
00:47:38.000 --> 00:47:43.120
That they crawled across the floor
and used their hands to walk.
00:47:43.240 --> 00:47:46.320
Until everyone learned to stand...
00:47:46.440 --> 00:47:49.400
...and I kept using my hands to walk.
00:47:49.520 --> 00:47:55.800
When I was about seven, I realized
I was different than all the other kids.
00:47:55.920 --> 00:48:00.920
At that time,
people with a functional disability...
00:48:01.040 --> 00:48:06.600
...were largely kept at home.
They hardly went outside.
00:48:06.720 --> 00:48:12.680
But I was lucky, because there was
a nice atmosphere here.
00:48:12.800 --> 00:48:17.720
Other kids came here
to play with me in the swimming pool.
00:48:17.840 --> 00:48:21.720
Later, I realized that
they didn't come because of me...
00:48:21.840 --> 00:48:23.840
...but because of the pool.
00:48:23.960 --> 00:48:31.000
Because I never saw them in winter,
only in summer. Stands to reason, right?
00:48:46.040 --> 00:48:51.920
I think if I had been born today
instead of back then...
00:48:52.040 --> 00:48:55.960
...I probably wouldn't have been born at all.
00:48:56.080 --> 00:49:02.280
I'm one of the three reasons
you can have an abortion:
00:49:02.400 --> 00:49:04.000
Malformation of the foetus.
00:49:04.120 --> 00:49:09.160
That's why I always say that in the
21st century I would have been aborted...
00:49:09.280 --> 00:49:13.680
...but thank God I wasn't.
And thanks to my mother.
00:49:13.800 --> 00:49:17.880
And to science,
which didn't yet enable them to see...
00:49:18.000 --> 00:49:20.040
...that I had an impairment.
00:49:20.160 --> 00:49:23.800
You didn't have all those tests
you have today.
00:50:52.200 --> 00:50:53.880
Come back!
00:51:01.520 --> 00:51:07.640
This is the last time you refuse to come back
when I call you. I've had enough.
00:51:32.120 --> 00:51:35.800
Will you be coming to La Caldera
this Monday?
00:51:36.800 --> 00:51:39.080
I don't know yet.
- No.
00:51:43.040 --> 00:51:47.760
It depends... And why is it
those two don't want to come?
00:51:47.880 --> 00:51:51.520
Those two Lebanese.
Do they think we're too intimate?
00:51:51.640 --> 00:51:55.960
A man dancing with a man
is sinful to them.
00:51:56.360 --> 00:51:59.240
Where did you meet them?
- In the street.
00:51:59.360 --> 00:52:01.000
At the Sagrada Família?
00:52:05.400 --> 00:52:09.480
They came to me and knelt down to pray...
00:52:09.600 --> 00:52:13.120
...and started talking to me.
00:52:13.680 --> 00:52:16.120
It happened kind of gradually.
00:52:16.240 --> 00:52:21.040
I was a little suspicious.
00:52:24.080 --> 00:52:26.640
Let's see what kind of people they are.
00:52:29.800 --> 00:52:32.360
So far it feels good.
00:52:41.280 --> 00:52:46.480
Does it have a name,
this way of... this view of...?
00:52:46.600 --> 00:52:48.440
They're Christians.
00:52:50.120 --> 00:52:53.280
Do they go to church and stuff?
- Yes.
00:52:54.320 --> 00:52:58.280
But I made it clear to them...
00:52:58.400 --> 00:53:05.560
...that to me, the Church or God
can be the way you treat someone.
00:53:05.680 --> 00:53:07.440
Rather than the institution.
00:53:07.560 --> 00:53:13.200
But since I've met them,
things in my head are much...
00:53:13.320 --> 00:53:15.560
Quieter.
- Yes, in terms of my demons.
00:53:15.680 --> 00:53:19.720
How long have you known them?
- About three weeks.
00:53:22.760 --> 00:53:27.200
Dancing has helped me...
00:53:28.280 --> 00:53:34.480
...to come out of the darkness,
out of the shadows you mention.
00:53:34.600 --> 00:53:39.600
To me it is clear
that dancing has saved me.
00:53:40.520 --> 00:53:45.080
I think what they tell you,
and what I can also clearly see...
00:53:45.200 --> 00:53:49.480
...is that you have a strong inner light,
very strong...
00:53:50.480 --> 00:53:53.880
...and you have a powerful shadow too.
00:53:54.000 --> 00:53:57.040
And you're looking for a balance...
00:53:57.160 --> 00:54:01.080
...so they can exist side by side,
without conflict.
00:54:02.120 --> 00:54:05.240
You have a talent and you have a light.
00:54:06.240 --> 00:54:09.240
And you need to dance.
00:54:10.400 --> 00:54:13.320
We are creators. You're a creator.
00:54:13.440 --> 00:54:16.800
You're a creator and a performer, like me.
00:54:23.840 --> 00:54:27.360
I always used to live from day to day.
00:54:39.480 --> 00:54:43.360
So at night I went to bars.
00:54:44.880 --> 00:54:46.320
And I drank.
00:54:54.640 --> 00:54:57.120
But I would come home alone.
00:54:59.400 --> 00:55:05.560
And then the feeling of loneliness
started to get to me.
00:55:11.360 --> 00:55:14.200
I began to think about suicide.
00:55:23.240 --> 00:55:28.880
It was like a rollercoaster
which completely threw me off balance.
00:55:29.000 --> 00:55:34.720
Until one day I crossed the line...
00:55:36.200 --> 00:55:40.640
...with no idea that the result
would be so dramatic.
00:55:54.920 --> 00:56:00.080
It's living with the sword of Damocles.
00:56:07.200 --> 00:56:09.000
It's now or never.
00:57:43.160 --> 00:57:49.000
Bye, Philip.
- Bye, sweetheart. I love you.
00:58:29.240 --> 00:58:34.880
Yes, please?
- I'd like some information...
00:58:35.000 --> 00:58:40.680
...about a course in basic German.
00:58:40.800 --> 00:58:45.000
German?
Perfect. I'm the teacher.
00:58:45.880 --> 00:58:48.760
Do you speak a little German?
- No.
00:58:48.880 --> 00:58:53.280
So you start from scratch?
- Yes.
00:58:53.400 --> 00:58:58.520
In that case you don't have to take
an admission test.
00:58:58.640 --> 00:59:04.680
I'm very interested...
00:59:04.800 --> 00:59:11.760
...because my husband is German.
00:59:11.880 --> 00:59:14.720
That would be a great motivation.
00:59:14.840 --> 00:59:20.800
We often travel to Germany.
00:59:20.920 --> 00:59:25.640
You travel to Germany.
- And besides...
00:59:25.760 --> 00:59:30.200
...my husband has...
- Come again?
00:59:30.320 --> 00:59:35.880
Besides, my husband has...
00:59:36.000 --> 00:59:43.280
...a disease...
00:59:43.400 --> 00:59:46.200
...which is degenerative.
00:59:46.320 --> 00:59:51.760
Therefore it is likely...
00:59:51.880 --> 00:59:57.240
...that ultimately he will only be able...
00:59:57.360 --> 01:00:03.680
...to speak German.
- I understand.
01:00:03.800 --> 01:00:09.480
This is why I'm interested.
01:00:09.600 --> 01:00:12.560
This is why you want to start. Right.
01:00:12.680 --> 01:00:16.600
I will give you a form, which you
have to hand in when you register.
01:00:16.720 --> 01:00:18.120
Alright.
01:00:19.200 --> 01:00:23.120
Right, this is what you need.
01:00:23.240 --> 01:00:26.680
And you can register downstairs.
01:00:26.800 --> 01:00:31.360
I'll see you for the first lesson on...
- The 30th.
01:00:31.480 --> 01:00:37.800
30 September. Perfect.
- Thanks ever so much.
01:01:08.880 --> 01:01:10.480
Sendoa...
01:01:12.080 --> 01:01:15.760
Interesting.
- Yes. They're dancing.
01:01:17.520 --> 01:01:21.400
Chinese?
- Koreans, I think.
01:01:23.640 --> 01:01:25.800
How was your day?
01:01:25.920 --> 01:01:28.840
Fine. I worked, as usual. And you?
01:01:28.960 --> 01:01:34.040
Tell me, how was the consulting hour?
- Exhausting.
01:01:34.160 --> 01:01:35.920
Exhausting?
- What about you?
01:01:36.040 --> 01:01:39.200
You're always full of energy, right?
01:01:39.320 --> 01:01:43.480
Everyone is tired these days, right?
01:01:43.600 --> 01:01:45.880
We need to do something about that.
01:01:47.280 --> 01:01:49.880
You have to have faith in people.
01:01:50.000 --> 01:01:52.560
In people?
- In humanity.
01:01:52.680 --> 01:01:54.880
I'm not so sure.
- Why?
01:01:55.000 --> 01:02:00.080
My view is a lot more pessimistic
than yours. Well...
01:02:00.200 --> 01:02:03.600
It's so many things.
Mental health is...
01:02:04.520 --> 01:02:11.400
Health is more than absence of disease.
01:02:11.520 --> 01:02:17.320
Health is a fulfilment,
physically, mentally or socially.
01:02:17.440 --> 01:02:21.400
To me, the cure is a wonderful word: love.
01:02:23.440 --> 01:02:28.720
In the end, things that are done with love,
are more healing.
01:02:30.400 --> 01:02:35.280
If we act with love, desire and good will...
01:02:35.400 --> 01:02:40.520
...everything gets easier.
You have to do things with love and care.
01:02:40.640 --> 01:02:44.680
Then everything goes better.
- It's about the small gestures.
01:05:00.640 --> 01:05:02.800
Hello?
- Hello?
01:05:03.280 --> 01:05:07.080
Hi, Fernando.
- Hi, Jordi, how are you?
01:05:07.200 --> 01:05:13.880
I'm fine. And how are you?
- Not very well, unfortunately.
01:05:14.760 --> 01:05:17.960
You seemed to be feeling much better...
01:05:18.080 --> 01:05:23.720
...and as there are some performances
coming up, I thought...
01:05:23.840 --> 01:05:27.080
...because you seem to have
much more energy now...
01:05:27.200 --> 01:05:34.200
...but I wanted to check,
to hear how you're really doing.
01:05:34.320 --> 01:05:41.840
We'll decide on the actual day
if you can dance with us.
01:05:41.960 --> 01:05:46.440
Sure.
- Okay.
01:05:46.560 --> 01:05:52.200
Take your time. We can wait.
01:05:52.320 --> 01:05:54.400
Until the actual day, as you know.
01:05:54.520 --> 01:05:59.280
We'll arrange it on the actual day.
We're brilliant improvisers.
01:05:59.400 --> 01:06:03.400
Let's look for a place to sit
with Fernando, Glee.
01:06:03.520 --> 01:06:07.360
That's it, very good.
- It's going very well.
01:06:07.480 --> 01:06:12.560
We haven't seen each other for a while.
- Good rolling here.
01:06:12.680 --> 01:06:16.560
It's sloping a little.
- This ground is smoother.
01:06:16.680 --> 01:06:20.400
Look. Take this chair.
01:06:21.160 --> 01:06:23.880
Here? Perfect.
01:06:24.000 --> 01:06:25.480
Very good.
01:06:25.600 --> 01:06:27.960
You stand there and I'll go this way.
01:06:28.080 --> 01:06:31.200
Come, Glee.
Fernando is going to sit there.
01:06:33.320 --> 01:06:35.120
No worries.
01:06:35.240 --> 01:06:39.840
That's it. Very good.
01:06:39.960 --> 01:06:42.360
Let's see if the waiter will come.
01:06:42.480 --> 01:06:46.400
I have to tell you about
what happened to me.
01:06:46.520 --> 01:06:50.720
It left me with a bit of a funny feeling.
01:06:50.840 --> 01:06:54.000
Funny things always happen to you.
That's life.
01:06:54.120 --> 01:06:57.640
You know I like getting out and about.
01:06:57.760 --> 01:07:02.320
I hadn't been to Montjuic for a while.
01:07:02.440 --> 01:07:05.280
As I don't know the area that well...
01:07:05.400 --> 01:07:10.280
...I couldn't tell Glee where to go.
01:07:10.400 --> 01:07:16.280
So she took the initiative and
started descending some steps.
01:07:16.400 --> 01:07:22.960
And I called out,
"Is anybody there? I've lost my way."
01:07:23.080 --> 01:07:28.080
You know I always liked to travel.
01:07:28.200 --> 01:07:34.320
It's no disaster, but I do feel a little sad
about losing my autonomy.
01:07:34.440 --> 01:07:38.560
If you don't know the way,
you can't go there on your own...
01:07:38.680 --> 01:07:42.920
...because the dog doesn't know
where to go.
01:07:43.040 --> 01:07:47.360
Poor animal.
- Yes, a little.
01:07:47.480 --> 01:07:52.800
Some adventure, right?
- A small adventure...
01:07:52.920 --> 01:07:58.040
I'm sure this happens to you more often.
- Yes, Fernando.
01:08:01.120 --> 01:08:06.640
as happy as I feel today to be here
01:08:06.760 --> 01:08:07.840
You're sweet.
01:08:07.960 --> 01:08:14.560
and share with others the joy of living
01:08:14.680 --> 01:08:21.000
we are a group of friends
who like to dance
01:08:21.120 --> 01:08:28.200
and to share with you
our unique dance
01:08:28.840 --> 01:08:35.240
we just come together
without asking each other's age
01:08:35.360 --> 01:08:41.720
and whether you're crippled or cross-eyed
long live diversity
01:08:41.840 --> 01:08:48.880
today I lend you my eyes
and you give me your legs
01:08:49.000 --> 01:08:56.720
and we'll get on the dance floor
to dance without fear
01:08:56.840 --> 01:09:03.040
long live those up there
long live those down here
01:09:03.160 --> 01:09:08.880
long live those who didn't come
or couldn't come
01:09:09.000 --> 01:09:15.160
long live those up there
long live those down here
01:09:15.280 --> 01:09:18.720
long live those who didn't come
01:09:18.840 --> 01:09:25.760
long live those who didn't come
or couldn't come
01:09:28.560 --> 01:09:31.400
Where are you?
Have you lost your way?
01:09:35.440 --> 01:09:40.040
Fernando, you've got
such a sense of humour.
01:09:40.160 --> 01:09:43.440
You can say that again.
Look at me sitting here.
01:09:51.760 --> 01:09:59.160
I'd just like to say that this manifesto
was written by Toni Jodar...
01:09:59.920 --> 01:10:03.680
...my first dancing instructor.
01:10:03.800 --> 01:10:09.560
I've danced all my life, ever since I was
a child, and I will keep dancing till I die.
01:10:09.680 --> 01:10:15.720
There are countless ways to dance
and each place invites people to dance.
01:10:15.840 --> 01:10:19.400
Dance enables us to enter our souls...
01:10:19.520 --> 01:10:23.200
...our imaginations, without limits.
01:10:23.320 --> 01:10:27.200
Dance is our bodies making contact.
01:10:27.320 --> 01:10:30.720
Dance is an earthquake, a volcano,
the northern lights.
01:10:30.840 --> 01:10:33.480
Dancing is living, long live dancing...
01:10:33.600 --> 01:10:36.320
...and a big NO to war.
01:10:45.040 --> 01:10:50.440
Breathe. Up and down.
01:10:50.560 --> 01:10:54.040
Up and down.
01:11:25.440 --> 01:11:27.240
The other arm.
01:11:37.560 --> 01:11:40.320
Look at the sky. Shoulders.
01:12:04.280 --> 01:12:07.840
Attention please, energy to the centre.
01:13:04.480 --> 01:13:10.240
I've never been a recognized author.
I never intended to be one.
01:13:10.360 --> 01:13:15.600
But everyone can practise one of the arts...
01:13:15.720 --> 01:13:20.400
...in a humble manner.
Without any complexes.
01:13:21.840 --> 01:13:23.320
I write...
01:13:23.440 --> 01:13:26.880
Apart from having published
a number of books...
01:13:27.000 --> 01:13:32.240
...I also write when our director,
Jordi Cortés...
01:13:32.360 --> 01:13:36.600
...asks me for a text
for a performance or a project.
01:13:36.720 --> 01:13:42.400
Or for colleagues who have
their own projects and ask me for a text.
01:13:44.200 --> 01:13:48.520
This text was written
as a vision from a dream...
01:13:48.640 --> 01:13:52.040
...at the place where I go to relax.
01:13:55.200 --> 01:13:56.680
AT THE RIVER
01:13:56.800 --> 01:13:59.280
where cold and heat are inseparable
01:13:59.400 --> 01:14:02.200
I dream nor sleep nor do I wake
01:14:02.320 --> 01:14:06.000
Joachina. Can you come, please?
01:14:09.040 --> 01:14:11.520
Can you change my shirt?
01:14:11.640 --> 01:14:17.200
Take the green one,
the old one I wear in the forest.
01:14:17.320 --> 01:14:19.880
The green-and-black check.
01:14:22.720 --> 01:14:25.280
I've always had to struggle...
01:14:25.400 --> 01:14:32.320
...to live a dignified life
in difficult circumstances.
01:14:34.240 --> 01:14:39.360
That's the part that links me to Eros,
to the mainspring of life.
01:14:42.720 --> 01:14:47.880
At the same time,
this struggle, this effort...
01:14:48.000 --> 01:14:50.000
...is exhausting.
01:14:52.320 --> 01:14:56.080
I sometimes feel the desire to rest.
01:14:58.720 --> 01:15:02.880
The feeling that I've already
done most things in my life.
01:15:03.840 --> 01:15:06.120
And, well...
01:15:56.680 --> 01:15:59.360
I dream nor sleep
01:16:01.080 --> 01:16:02.960
nor do I wake
01:16:05.080 --> 01:16:08.080
some echoes, few heartbeats
01:16:08.200 --> 01:16:12.080
and wounds from a barely bladed weapon
01:16:12.200 --> 01:16:16.000
which devour the soul
and leave the skin intact
01:16:18.600 --> 01:16:23.160
you are a grand piano
full of symphonies
01:16:23.280 --> 01:16:27.040
coloured notes and grey sadness
01:16:29.200 --> 01:16:33.040
the seat to sit on and play
I put before you
01:16:36.240 --> 01:16:39.200
but you don't bring elegance
or wood to my forest
01:16:40.000 --> 01:16:43.280
just the icy steel of your eyes
01:16:44.400 --> 01:16:46.680
of your sword at my throat
01:16:54.840 --> 01:16:58.480
each drop of sweat
is like a drop of ink
01:16:59.600 --> 01:17:02.320
each look forms a line
01:17:03.000 --> 01:17:05.760
each whispering is a verse
01:17:10.080 --> 01:17:15.840
when you end my dreams
I will just wake and keep distances
01:17:16.840 --> 01:17:20.160
stab to death the shadows
boil the water
01:17:23.520 --> 01:17:26.160
dry my blood
let my tears rot
01:17:27.600 --> 01:17:30.480
it is your intention which kills
01:17:32.200 --> 01:17:36.240
drop the knife
or stay away from my mouth
01:17:41.880 --> 01:17:44.320
I was born a wolf
01:17:45.600 --> 01:17:47.840
you made me lonely
01:17:49.200 --> 01:17:53.040
where cold and heat are inseparable
01:20:11.320 --> 01:20:14.400
It's meditation and concentration.
01:20:15.960 --> 01:20:19.360
Control the space around you.
01:20:30.400 --> 01:20:33.080
Observe what happens around you.
01:20:34.400 --> 01:20:37.280
Everything going on around you.
01:20:37.400 --> 01:20:41.680
Sendoa, when you want, go towards Marta.
01:20:42.200 --> 01:20:44.600
Calmly, with no hurry.
01:20:47.200 --> 01:20:49.400
Attention, you're close to the edge.
01:20:49.520 --> 01:20:52.000
Good, Miguel Angel.
01:21:02.320 --> 01:21:04.600
Attention.
01:21:18.400 --> 01:21:20.600
Keep going.
01:21:27.600 --> 01:21:29.000
Thank you.
01:21:31.920 --> 01:21:36.800
heigh-ho, heigh-ho
to work in the woods we go
01:22:02.640 --> 01:22:05.320
it's not that you don't exist
01:22:06.720 --> 01:22:09.760
it's that you're invisible
01:22:11.120 --> 01:22:14.200
you have no access
you have no sex
01:22:14.320 --> 01:22:17.800
I don't desire you
because I don't see you
01:22:23.800 --> 01:22:28.200
I wash you, put you to bed
I dress you and undress you
01:22:31.800 --> 01:22:34.160
but I don't touch you
01:22:35.120 --> 01:22:40.720
I, as for me, I don't touch you
01:22:42.480 --> 01:22:46.840
I don't lick you, I don't smell you,
I don't desire you
01:22:46.960 --> 01:22:52.000
because I, as for me, I don't see you
01:22:52.920 --> 01:22:58.760
because you, yes, you
are sexless
01:22:58.880 --> 01:23:02.880
naked, you are a shapeless thing
01:23:03.000 --> 01:23:06.960
naked, a shapeless monster
01:23:07.080 --> 01:23:13.160
you have no sex, no access, no weight,
no voice, no right to speak
01:23:14.320 --> 01:23:20.680
angel and asexual, when you sweat
I wash you, but I don't lick you
01:23:20.800 --> 01:23:26.080
when you groan, it is because you hurt
I never desire you
01:23:26.200 --> 01:23:29.400
it's not that you don't exist
01:23:29.520 --> 01:23:31.920
it's that I don't see you
01:23:58.240 --> 01:24:02.200
Come on, let's go.
01:24:02.320 --> 01:24:05.400
It's time to rock-'n-roll! Hurry up.
01:24:05.520 --> 01:24:09.720
I'll get the rucksack.
Let's get out there. Come on.
01:24:11.800 --> 01:24:17.560
Hurry up, I'm freezing. Come on.
01:24:29.520 --> 01:24:33.160
Shall we get ready to go to La Troca?
- Yes.
01:24:33.280 --> 01:24:37.680
I'll turn off the TV.
- Alright.
01:24:37.800 --> 01:24:42.160
The most important activity of the week
is going to La Troca.
01:24:54.520 --> 01:24:58.600
She really looks forward to Wednesdays.
01:24:58.720 --> 01:25:01.000
Yes.
01:25:03.800 --> 01:25:07.280
More friends.
01:25:38.480 --> 01:25:40.040
Hello.
01:25:45.000 --> 01:25:48.040
You guys are used to this.
01:25:48.160 --> 01:25:51.000
Have you been out all day?
- No.
01:29:36.320 --> 01:29:38.520
Eier.
- Eggs.
01:29:38.640 --> 01:29:41.440
Ein Ei. Die Eier.
01:29:41.560 --> 01:29:43.920
Das Ei, die Eier.
01:29:45.480 --> 01:29:50.000
Die Eier. Plural.
- Alright.
01:29:53.640 --> 01:29:58.920
I love this. Salmon.
01:29:59.520 --> 01:30:02.560
Lachs.
01:30:02.680 --> 01:30:07.880
Eine Scheibe Lachs.
A fillet of salmon.
01:30:08.000 --> 01:30:12.080
A piece.
- A piece, yes.
01:30:12.200 --> 01:30:18.440
Not a slice.
- Eine Scheibe Lachs.
01:30:18.560 --> 01:30:21.360
Yes?
01:30:24.040 --> 01:30:25.560
Brot.
01:30:27.400 --> 01:30:29.200
Brot is...?
01:30:29.320 --> 01:30:30.840
Bread.
01:30:32.720 --> 01:30:35.000
I eat it every day.
01:30:43.560 --> 01:30:47.160
Hähnchen.
- Hähnchen.
01:30:49.000 --> 01:30:50.400
Chicken.
01:30:54.400 --> 01:30:58.240
Das Hähnchen.
- Das Hähnchen.
01:30:59.920 --> 01:31:05.880
I think that's a difficult word.
01:31:06.000 --> 01:31:10.560
Yes, it's hard to learn.
