“We’re used to seeing a house for its roof, windows, and walls. But in the end, as we move out of here, it breaks my heart." Filmmaker Kavich Neang's father is one of the hundreds of residents who must leave the iconic White Building in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. This housing block bore witness to a tremendous series of events: the young nation's Golden Age; a traumatic breakdown under a radical regime; decades of cultural revival centered within its walls; and, the rapid pace of capitalist development that would ultimately lead to its demise. Now the once radiant walls are grey and damaged. Neang, born here in 1987 and raised inside, once dreamed of shooting a fiction film here, but reality overtook his plan. It’s now the location for his first full-length documentary. When demolition comes, it’s all just a memory.
Asian Movie Pulse | Rouven Linnarz
"The message could not be more obvious about how the building, despite its decaying structures, has become a home, a source of life and history which is now in the (bureaucratic) process of being demolished and replaced."
Toronto Film Critics Association | José Teodoro
"Racing against time, he [Neang] shot a documentary instead, one made in a spirit akin to that of Pedro Costa’s In Vanda’s Room."
University of Westminster (London, UK); CREAM | May Adadol Ingawanij, Professor of Cinematic Arts at the University of Westminster and Co-director of the Centre for Research and Education in Arts and Media
"A new wave film that looks beyond the lives of the young, asserting the depth of relational bonds – neighbourly kinship, ancestrally forceful sense of place – as, at least for now, spiritual force."
"The shots of the almost empty corridors in the process of being made to disappear points to that space in its potentiality. This was here. This corridor here was where bodies mingled, songs from different eras and sounds from different worlds mixed, and where doors that might have shut out each unit of dwelling persisted in remaining ajar until the day they came down."
University of Sussex | James Harvey, Lecturer in Film Studies
"Cambodian filmmaker Kavich Neang’s painterly study of the evicted residents of Phnom Penh’s White Building."
University of Colorado Boulder | Lauren Collins,Assistant Professor and Director of the Asian Studies Program
"The history of the white building intersects with the history of arts development in Cambodia, as well as widening economic gaps that are impacted by foreign investment from China, Japan, and other countries looking to profit off the high growth rate that Cambodia has."

1 [Chunnath POK, father of Kavich NEANG]
00:02:32,600 --> 00:02:34,400
"Headway".
2 [Chunnath POK]
00:02:34,480 --> 00:02:37,480
They say this book
helps you learn English faster.
3 [Chunnath POK]
00:02:45,360 --> 00:02:48,720
During the Sangkum era (1960s),
we only had "Essential" books.
4 [Chunnath POK]
00:02:56,880 --> 00:02:58,480
This notebook.
5 [Chunnath POK]
00:02:59,280 --> 00:03:03,680
We should treat it with more respect.
It can prove very useful.
6 [Chunnath POK]
00:03:03,760 --> 00:03:07,080
Yet we left it to be eaten
by termites and mice.
7 [Cambodian Minister of Land Management CHEA Sophara]
00:04:27,880 --> 00:04:30,560
There's no pressure,
but just so I know,
8 [CHEA Sophara]
00:04:30,640 --> 00:04:35,320
who wants to leave
on 6 June?
9 [CHEA Sophara]
00:04:35,400 --> 00:04:37,600
So that we can prepare.
10 [CHEA Sophara]
00:04:37,680 --> 00:04:41,680
Can you help count?
11 [CHEA Sophara]
00:04:41,760 --> 00:04:44,960
Please wait to be counted.
12 [CHEA Sophara]
00:04:45,840 --> 00:04:48,520
We need to be clear on numbers.
13 [CHEA Sophara]
00:04:49,400 --> 00:04:52,720
Please raise your hands once again...
14 [CHEA Sophara]
00:04:55,760 --> 00:04:59,760
...if you want to leave on the 6th.
15 [White Building Resident 1]
00:05:20,040 --> 00:05:25,120
Your Excellency, can we take
the doors and windows with us?
16 [CHEA Sophara]
00:05:25,200 --> 00:05:27,360
Take whatever you want!
17 [White Building Resident 2, named DORK Pich]
00:05:39,360 --> 00:05:41,400
My name is Dork Pich.
18 [DORK Pich]
00:05:41,480 --> 00:05:44,520
I'm an official at the Ministry
of Culture and Fine Arts.
19 [DORK Pich]
00:05:44,600 --> 00:05:47,440
I'd like to inform Your Excellency
20 [DORK Pich]
00:05:48,440 --> 00:05:52,520
that I've already thumbprinted
and prepared the documents.
21 [DORK Pich]
00:05:53,120 --> 00:05:58,120
But my apartment is only
14.8 square metres, Your Excellency.
22 [DORK Pich]
00:05:58,200 --> 00:06:02,040
I can't find a new home
with the compensation being offered.
23 [DORK Pich]
00:06:02,120 --> 00:06:05,280
So I'm here to ask
for your kind advice.
24 [DORK Pich]
00:06:05,360 --> 00:06:09,920
Also, I'm due to retire on 1 September.
That's all I'd like to say.
25 [DORK Pich]
00:06:10,520 --> 00:06:14,880
I can't find a place,
so I would like to ask your advice.
26 [DORK Pich]
00:06:14,960 --> 00:06:19,640
Lastly, I wish you a long life
and more years under your guidance.
27 [DORK Pich]
00:06:20,640 --> 00:06:22,040
Thank you.
28 [DORK Pich]
00:06:22,120 --> 00:06:24,120
So I'm seeking your advice.
29 [White Building Resident 3, unnamed]
00:06:54,640 --> 00:06:57,600
Your Excellency,
I have the same problem.
30 [White Building Resident 3, unnamed]
00:06:57,680 --> 00:07:01,400
My unit is only 9 square metres.
31 [White Building Resident 3, unnamed]
00:07:01,480 --> 00:07:05,240
Could you please provide me
with more compensation?
32 [Kimleang SO, mother of Kavich NEANG]
00:07:12,800 --> 00:07:15,880
Tomorrow we'll leave
with all our belongings.
33 [Chunnath POK]
00:07:17,480 --> 00:07:19,520
You have long legs for a baby!
34 [Thida NOP]
00:07:19,600 --> 00:07:22,240
Don't keep coming back and forth.
35 [Thida NOP]
00:07:22,320 --> 00:07:24,320
You should take all your things
after the party.
36 [Thida NOP]
00:07:24,400 --> 00:07:26,400
Keep one or two sets of clothes
for the party.
37 [Thida NOP / Kimleang SO]
00:07:26,480 --> 00:07:29,720
- After the party, you can just leave.
- But we need the money for...
38 [Thida NOP]
00:07:29,800 --> 00:07:33,960
Who doesn't need money?!
Then you should leave on the 10th.
39 [Kimleang SO]
00:07:34,040 --> 00:07:36,520
No, once they've checked,
we'll have to leave on the 8th.
40 [Thida NOP]
00:07:36,600 --> 00:07:38,600
I heard they won't
get the money on time.
41 [Chunnath POK]
00:07:38,680 --> 00:07:40,280
Hey, let's do this.
42 [Chunnath POK]
00:07:40,360 --> 00:07:45,840
We can leave on the 8th,
then take the cheque from the Ministry
43 [Chunnath POK / Thida NOP]
00:07:45,920 --> 00:07:49,040
- and come back on the 10th.
- Yeah, we can still sleep here.
44 [Thida NOP / Kimleang SO]
00:07:49,120 --> 00:07:51,240
- They won't kick us out until 7 July.
- No.
45 [Kimleang SO]
00:07:51,320 --> 00:07:56,800
Once we leave,
they'll board up our apartments.
46 [Kimleang SO]
00:07:56,880 --> 00:07:59,520
Because they're afraid
we'll come back.
47 [Chunnath POK]
00:07:59,600 --> 00:08:03,560
We should pay for the water
when we get the bill.
48 [Kimleang SO]
00:08:03,640 --> 00:08:06,720
Who would do that?
49 [Kimleang SO]
00:08:35,080 --> 00:08:36,880
How will they board them up?
50 [Kimleang SO]
00:08:36,960 --> 00:08:41,840
They're letting us take everything,
even the doors.
51 [Kimleang SO]
00:08:41,920 --> 00:08:44,040
When they come,
they'll board up our flats. That's it.
52 [White Building Resident 4]
00:08:44,120 --> 00:08:46,200
How are they going to do that?
53 [Kimleang SO]
00:08:46,280 --> 00:08:49,800
There'll be lots of trucks
loaded with wooden boards.
54 [Kimleang SO]
00:08:49,880 --> 00:08:53,760
They'll board up the doors
as they're worried we'll come back.
55 [Kimleang SO / White Building Resident 4]
00:08:53,840 --> 00:08:57,280
- I'm worried...
- I don't think we'd come back here.
56 [Kimleang SO]
00:08:57,360 --> 00:09:02,080
I'm worried that after we've all left,
they won't give us the money.
57 [White Building Resident 4]
00:09:02,160 --> 00:09:05,760
Don't be. They will give it to us.
58 [Kimleang SO]
00:09:06,600 --> 00:09:08,800
I can't help worry, though.
59 [on-screen text]
00:10:16,720 --> 00:10:19,000
The White Building,
inaugurated in 1963,
60 [on-screen text]
00:10:19,080 --> 00:10:21,920
was designed by Lu Bun Hap
and Vladimir Bodiansky,
61 [on-screen text]
00:10:22,000 --> 00:10:25,600
under the supervision of Cambodian
state architect Vann Molyvann.
62 [on-screen text]
00:10:25,680 --> 00:10:28,480
It was emptied of its residents
on 17 April 1975
63 [on-screen text]
00:10:28,560 --> 00:10:32,160
when the Khmer Rouge took power
and evacuated all of Phnom Penh.
64 [on-screen text]
00:10:32,240 --> 00:10:35,840
After 1979, many people returning
to the capital were housed there,
65 [on-screen text]
00:10:35,920 --> 00:10:39,560
in what became a vibrant community
of artists and civil servants.
66 [on-screen text]
00:10:41,040 --> 00:10:43,280
In May 2017, it was announced
67 [on-screen text]
00:10:43,360 --> 00:10:46,960
that a Japanese company
had bought the White Building
68 [on-screen text]
00:10:47,040 --> 00:10:49,720
with the support
of the Cambodian government.
69 [on-screen text]
00:10:49,800 --> 00:10:52,200
493 families
had to leave their homes.
70 [representative from Land Ministry / White Building resident 5, named YUN Kim]
00:10:53,440 --> 00:10:57,720
- B27, Yun Kim is your name?
- Yes.
71 [YUN Kim]
00:11:01,080 --> 00:11:05,400
I'm waiting for my nephew
to come on Sunday.
72 [YUN Kim / Land Ministry representative]
00:11:05,480 --> 00:11:09,280
- Is he helping you move out?
- Yes. But he's not sure yet.
73 [YUN Kim]
00:11:09,360 --> 00:11:11,760
That's the plan.
74 [Land Ministry representative]
00:11:11,840 --> 00:11:13,640
No problem, Auntie.
75 [Land Ministry representative]
00:11:13,720 --> 00:11:18,080
I'd just like to know
what date you plan to move out.
76 [YUN Kim]
00:11:18,160 --> 00:11:20,600
You're working out
how many people are leaving?
77 [Land Ministry representative]
00:11:20,680 --> 00:11:24,680
Yes. The company requires you
to move everything out.
78 [Land Ministry representative]
00:11:24,760 --> 00:11:28,040
Then they'll come to check.
79 [Land Ministry representative]
00:11:28,120 --> 00:11:33,040
Once you've moved everything out.
they'll board up your apartment.
80 [Land Ministry representative]
00:11:33,120 --> 00:11:37,400
Then they'll give you a document
for the Ministry to issue a cheque
81 [Land Ministry representative]
00:11:37,480 --> 00:11:40,160
so you can withdraw
the money from the bank.
82 [Land Ministry representative]
00:11:40,240 --> 00:11:42,440
Thank you, Auntie.
That's all.
83 [Land Ministry representative]
00:11:50,760 --> 00:11:52,640
Hello, Uncle.
84 [Land Ministry representative]
00:11:55,440 --> 00:11:57,960
I'm from the Ministry
of Land Management.
85 [White Building resident 6, unnamed]
00:11:58,040 --> 00:12:00,040
How can I help you?
86 [Land Ministry representative]
00:12:00,120 --> 00:12:02,200
I see you've signed the agreement.
87 [Land Ministry representative]
00:12:03,240 --> 00:12:06,000
My team has been assigned
by the Ministry
88 [Land Ministry representative]
00:12:06,080 --> 00:12:09,480
to survey this whole building,
89 [Land Ministry representative]
00:12:09,560 --> 00:12:15,360
to find out which units
will be vacated on which dates.
90 [White Building resident 7, unnamed]
00:12:16,760 --> 00:12:20,240
But what if there's no money
in our cheque?
91 [Land Ministry representative]
00:12:20,320 --> 00:12:21,720
It's guaranteed.
92 [White Building resident 7 / Land Ministry representative]
00:12:21,800 --> 00:12:25,880
- Yeah, but we're still worried.
- There's no need to be...
93 [White Building resident 7]
00:12:25,960 --> 00:12:30,040
What if we move everything out
but then we don't get the money?
94 [Land Ministry representative]
00:12:30,120 --> 00:12:32,120
Let me explain it to you again.
95 [Land Ministry representative]
00:12:32,200 --> 00:12:35,840
With this cheque,
you won't be able to cash it right away.
96 [Land Ministry representative]
00:12:35,920 --> 00:12:38,800
First, you'll need to transfer the money
97 [Land Ministry representative]
00:12:38,880 --> 00:12:42,000
from the cheque
into your personal bank account.
98 [Land Ministry representative]
00:12:42,080 --> 00:12:47,800
After the transfer, you can withdraw
your money whenever you want.
99 [Land Ministry representative]
00:12:48,440 --> 00:12:54,320
You can withdraw it all at once
or whenever you need to.
100 [Song on radio playing]
00:15:47,240 --> 00:15:50,680
How can it be true?
101 [Song on radio playing]
00:15:51,200 --> 00:15:55,640
I'm falling in love with you,
But I don't dare utter a sound
102 [Song on radio playing]
00:15:56,160 --> 00:16:00,200
Only I know the love I feel for you,
My heart is so hopeless
103 [Song on radio playing]
00:16:00,720 --> 00:16:03,960
And my sorrow everlasting
104 [Song on radio playing]
00:16:23,920 --> 00:16:28,240
You are like a flower
in a heavenly garden
105 [Song on radio playing]
00:16:28,320 --> 00:16:32,600
Your eyes shine so brightly
106 [Song on radio playing]
00:16:33,280 --> 00:16:37,480
And your aroma fills the air
107 [Song on radio playing]
00:16:37,560 --> 00:16:41,840
My heart will never tire of you
108 [Song on radio playing]
00:16:42,880 --> 00:16:45,480
How can it be true?
109 [Song on radio playing]
00:16:46,760 --> 00:16:51,000
I'm falling in love with you,
But I don't dare utter a sound
110 [Song on radio playing]
00:16:51,520 --> 00:16:56,040
Only I know the love I feel for you,
My heart is so hopeless
111 [Song on radio playing]
00:16:56,120 --> 00:16:59,280
And my sorrow everlasting
112 [Sithul IENG, teacher of Kavich NEANG]
00:17:16,040 --> 00:17:18,080
Ten years.
113 [Sithul IENG]
00:17:18,160 --> 00:17:20,400
Since you were born.
114 [Sithul IENG]
00:17:20,480 --> 00:17:26,280
Even before you were born.
115 [Sithul IENG]
00:17:27,520 --> 00:17:30,920
This is where you grew up
but what can we do?
116 [Sithul IENG]
00:17:31,000 --> 00:17:33,000
We'll never forget it,
wherever we go.
117 [Sithul IENG / Kavich NEANG, director]
00:17:33,080 --> 00:17:35,080
- But we need the money.
- Right.
118 [Kavich NEANG, director]
00:17:36,360 --> 00:17:38,240
Many memories here, Teacher?
119 [Sithul IENG]
00:17:39,000 --> 00:17:43,040
Well, you've lived here
a lot longer than I have.
120 [Sithul IENG]
00:17:47,400 --> 00:17:49,200
On the left, the left!
121 [Sithul IENG]
00:17:59,680 --> 00:18:02,680
Use the remote!
122 [Kavich NEANG, director]
00:18:03,520 --> 00:18:05,960
Where's the button?
123 [Sithul IENG]
00:18:06,520 --> 00:18:08,440
On the side.
124 [Dyda POK, sister of Kavich NEANG]
00:18:31,040 --> 00:18:34,840
We can dismantle the beds.
I've just done one.
125 [Dyda POK]
00:18:34,920 --> 00:18:37,960
We still have two beds,
a table, a wardrobe,
126 [Dyda POK]
00:18:38,040 --> 00:18:41,200
a washing machine
and a fridge.
127 [Dyda POK]
00:18:45,640 --> 00:18:49,080
Why do we need such a big truck?
128 [Dyda POK]
00:18:50,720 --> 00:18:52,520
Oh, really?
129 [Dyda POK]
00:18:55,320 --> 00:18:57,920
Well, we've already moved
some of our stuff.
130 [Dyda POK]
00:18:58,000 --> 00:19:01,120
We only have a few more things
left to move.
131 [Dyda POK]
00:19:04,240 --> 00:19:06,400
Where are you based?
132 [Dyda POK]
00:19:11,560 --> 00:19:13,080
All right.
133 [Kimleang SO]
00:19:15,440 --> 00:19:21,080
Is it $30 total
or just for one trip?
134 [Dyda POK]
00:19:21,160 --> 00:19:23,800
I'm not sure if you can take it all
in one trip
135 [Dyda POK]
00:19:23,880 --> 00:19:28,080
because we still
have all the heavy stuff to move.
136 [Dyda POK]
00:19:28,160 --> 00:19:29,880
So?
137 [Kimleang SO]
00:19:29,960 --> 00:19:32,360
$70? Just to sit and drive?
138 [Dyda POK]
00:19:32,440 --> 00:19:37,800
So for $70
we just get the truck?
139 [Dyda POK]
00:19:37,880 --> 00:19:43,000
Then we'll have to do everything
by ourselves, right?
140 [Dyda POK]
00:19:44,200 --> 00:19:45,560
I see.
141 [Dyda POK]
00:19:48,880 --> 00:19:52,200
Yeah, that's what
we're worried about.
142 [Dyda POK]
00:19:53,320 --> 00:19:58,440
Does your truck have a cover?
We're worried it might rain.
143 [Kimleang SO]
00:20:41,200 --> 00:20:45,640
Can you ask your cousins to come
on the 10th to help remove the doors?
144 [Chunnath POK]
00:20:48,840 --> 00:20:51,640
Why the 10th? I've already asked them
to come on the 5th.
145 [Kimleang SO]
00:20:51,720 --> 00:20:54,560
No! Ask them to come on the 10th.
146 [Kimleang SO]
00:20:54,640 --> 00:20:57,720
So we can move everything that day.
147 [Chunnath POK]
00:20:57,800 --> 00:21:04,360
How can we move everything
in one day? It's not that easy.
148 [Kimleang SO]
00:21:04,440 --> 00:21:09,240
Then we'll have to sleep
at the new place?
149 [Chunnath POK]
00:21:09,320 --> 00:21:10,880
Right.
150 [Chunnath POK]
00:21:17,920 --> 00:21:21,240
We can still sleep here.
I'll leave the front door.
151 [Kimleang SO]
00:21:22,600 --> 00:21:24,880
How can we sleep here
with all the dust?
152 [Chunnath POK]
00:21:24,960 --> 00:21:28,680
What dust? We'll clean it up,
like our son just did here.
153 [Kimleang SO]
00:21:28,760 --> 00:21:32,000
I'm talking about when we take
the doorframes off the walls.
154 [Chunnath POK]
00:21:33,360 --> 00:21:35,760
Yeah, nothing we can do about that.
155 [Chunnath POK]
00:21:39,280 --> 00:21:41,400
Some of you can stay at the new place.
156 [Chunnath POK]
00:21:41,480 --> 00:21:44,920
Just leave the three of us
to take care of the rest.
157 [Kimleang SO / Chunnath POK]
00:21:45,000 --> 00:21:47,000
- What's that?
- We'll remove the door.
158 [Chunnath POK]
00:21:47,080 --> 00:21:50,240
We'll join you at the new place
at night-time once we're done.
159 [Kimleang SO]
00:21:53,480 --> 00:21:55,480
We can take our things first,
160 [Kimleang SO]
00:21:56,240 --> 00:21:59,480
then come back for the doors
on the 10th.
161 [Chunnath POK]
00:22:00,280 --> 00:22:02,880
I want to do it earlier
while I still have the energy.
162 [Kimleang SO]
00:22:02,960 --> 00:22:04,840
What about Kavich?
163 [Chunnath POK]
00:22:05,880 --> 00:22:07,880
I only have the energy to work now!
164 [Kimleang SO]
00:22:07,960 --> 00:22:09,720
But what about our son
who's busy filming?
165 [Chunnath POK]
00:22:09,800 --> 00:22:11,520
What about it?
166 [Chunnath POK]
00:22:15,560 --> 00:22:17,840
How's that relevant to the filming?
167 [Chunnath POK]
00:22:19,680 --> 00:22:22,040
I'm just packing things up!
168 [Kimleang SO]
00:22:22,120 --> 00:22:24,120
So where's he going to sleep?
169 [Chunnath POK]
00:22:25,040 --> 00:22:32,160
I'm just removing the frame.
It's just a small part of the wall.
170 [Chunnath POK]
00:22:34,680 --> 00:22:39,400
So why are we packing now then
if you wanted to leave on the 10th?
171 [Kimleang SO / Chunnath POK]
00:22:40,080 --> 00:22:42,680
- You sound crazy.
- I'm not crazy!
172 [Kimleang SO]
00:22:42,760 --> 00:22:46,320
We can begin packing now
and still leave on the 10th!
173 [Kimleang SO]
00:22:46,400 --> 00:22:48,920
Why can't we understand each other?
174 [Chunnath POK]
00:22:49,000 --> 00:22:52,960
Why not do everything
at the same time?
175 [Chunnath POK]
00:22:53,040 --> 00:22:56,240
We'll remove the door
without creating too much dust.
176 [Kimleang SO]
00:22:56,320 --> 00:22:59,440
After we've moved everything,
some of us can still sleep here.
177 [Chunnath POK]
00:22:59,520 --> 00:23:01,720
Sure. I'll leave one door here.
178 [Chunnath POK / Kimleang SO]
00:23:03,800 --> 00:23:06,000
- I already thought of that.
- So we'll leave the door open
179 [Kimleang SO / Chunnath POK]
00:23:06,080 --> 00:23:09,080
- when we sleep?
- Yeah, and we can lock the gate.
180 [Kimleang SO]
00:23:10,960 --> 00:23:14,000
Why do we always argue
about things in this family?
181 [Chunnath POK / Kimleang SO]
00:23:14,080 --> 00:23:18,000
- What are you talking about?
- You're always looking for an argument.
182 [Chunnath POK / Kimleang SO]
00:23:18,080 --> 00:23:21,440
- That's not true.
- You always have to win. Just stop it!
183 [White Building Resident 8, unnamed]
00:26:33,400 --> 00:26:35,000
Kids.
184 [White Building Resident 9, unnamed / White Building Resident 10, unnamed]
00:27:04,880 --> 00:27:08,680
- Is it a Thai against a Cambodian?
- No, it's Khmer against Khmer.
185 [White Building Resident 10]
00:27:08,760 --> 00:27:11,480
Last time, two Thai fighters won.
186 [White Building Resident 9]
00:27:14,040 --> 00:27:16,440
They didn't put in the better fighters.
187 [White Building Resident 10]
00:27:38,840 --> 00:27:41,720
Open the window and let some light in.
188 [White Building Resident 11, unnamed]
00:28:57,720 --> 00:29:00,840
Hey, be careful with the electricity
or we'll all die!
189 [White Building Resident 11]
00:29:02,560 --> 00:29:07,280
I don't want to get electrocuted
before I get the money!
190 [Rany BO]
00:29:25,640 --> 00:29:27,640
I don't know what's going to happen.
191 [Rany BO]
00:29:27,720 --> 00:29:34,040
I was speaking
to the other old people.
192 [Rany BO]
00:29:34,840 --> 00:29:40,000
The way we're being forced to leave
reminds us of the Pol Pot regime.
193 [Rany BO]
00:29:40,080 --> 00:29:44,680
Don't forget,
this is happening to 500 families!
194 [Rany BO]
00:29:44,760 --> 00:29:47,120
It's exactly the same
as during Pol Pot's era.
195 [Rany BO]
00:29:47,200 --> 00:29:51,240
We all laughed.
We still don't know what else to do.
196 [Rany BO]
00:29:51,320 --> 00:29:54,120
That's just how it is.
What can we do?
197 [Rany BO]
00:29:55,200 --> 00:29:57,240
How can we protest?
198 [Rany BO]
00:29:57,320 --> 00:29:59,960
Everyone is old now.
199 [Rany BO]
00:30:00,040 --> 00:30:04,640
These days, how can we protest?
200 [Kavich NEANG, director]
00:30:08,600 --> 00:30:10,800
Why do you say
it's the same as under Pol Pot?
201 [Rany BO]
00:30:10,880 --> 00:30:12,720
Because everyone has to leave.
202 [Rany BO]
00:30:12,800 --> 00:30:16,920
But this time, we're lucky
to have trucks to take our things.
203 [Kavich NEANG]
00:30:22,000 --> 00:30:24,080
At least this time
they're paying us to leave.
204 [Rany BO]
00:30:24,160 --> 00:30:27,160
Yes, but it still looks like...
205 [Rany BO]
00:30:27,240 --> 00:30:30,920
Look! Someone sent me this picture.
It's beautiful, isn't it?
206 [Rany BO]
00:30:31,000 --> 00:30:36,000
It looks so nice with the coconut trees
behind our homes.
207 [Rany BO / Kavich NEANG]
00:30:36,680 --> 00:30:39,600
- You see?
- Yes, yes.
208 [Rany BO]
00:30:39,680 --> 00:30:44,160
All of this was behind my flat.
209 [Kavich NEANG / Rany BO]
00:30:44,240 --> 00:30:49,360
- Who are the two kids there?
- Oh, I don't know.
210 [Rany BO]
00:30:50,560 --> 00:30:54,960
It's too small, I can't see it.
It's so pretty, you see?
211 [Kavich NEANG / Rany BO]
00:30:55,040 --> 00:30:57,920
- Yes, yes.
- Look at all the trees!
212 [Kavich NEANG]
00:30:59,080 --> 00:31:01,400
Yes, I see it.
213 [Rany BO / Kavich NEANG]
00:31:01,480 --> 00:31:03,440
- So beautiful, right?
- Yes.
214 [Kavich NEANG / Rany BO]
00:31:03,520 --> 00:31:06,960
- I miss it.
- Nowadays, everything's gone.
215 [Rany BO]
00:31:07,040 --> 00:31:12,800
There are no more trees like this
out in front.
216 [Rany BO]
00:31:12,880 --> 00:31:14,880
This photo was taken...
217 [Rany BO]
00:31:15,600 --> 00:31:18,040
...in front of the building...
218 [Rany BO]
00:31:20,200 --> 00:31:22,480
...called the 'Music Unit'.
219 [Rany BO]
00:31:24,480 --> 00:31:29,160
Look at this. It's so beautiful.
I want to keep this photo.
220 [Rany BO]
00:31:29,240 --> 00:31:34,040
I'll keep this photo to remind my kids
about the White Building.
221 [Rany BO]
00:31:35,520 --> 00:31:40,760
My kids asked to stay a few more days
before we leave.
222 [Rany BO]
00:31:40,840 --> 00:31:43,000
I told them,
"You can stay as long as possible.
223 [Rany BO]
00:31:43,080 --> 00:31:45,560
"For now,
no one's forcing you to leave."
224 [Rany BO]
00:31:47,760 --> 00:31:54,120
Beautiful, isn't it?
You won't find this anymore.
225 [Rany BO]
00:31:55,080 --> 00:31:57,920
It wasn't messy then
like it is today.
226 [Rany BO]
00:31:58,000 --> 00:31:59,960
The building used to look cleaner.
227 [Rany BO]
00:32:00,040 --> 00:32:02,800
You and the other kids
used to run around.
228 [Kavich NEANG]
00:32:04,000 --> 00:32:06,440
Catching frogs.
229 [Rany BO]
00:32:07,360 --> 00:32:09,160
Yeah, that's how it was.
230 [Rany BO]
00:32:09,240 --> 00:32:12,640
I'm glad to have this photo
with me now.
231 [Kavich NEANG / Rany BO]
00:32:14,720 --> 00:32:17,320
- You don't have any other photos?
- No, I don't.
232 [Rany BO]
00:32:17,400 --> 00:32:19,560
I don't know who posted that photo.
233 [Sophanara DY]
00:33:00,600 --> 00:33:02,360
Hello!
234 [Sophanara DY]
00:33:02,440 --> 00:33:04,520
Sister, it's David's mother.
235 [Sophanara DY]
00:33:05,240 --> 00:33:08,240
How did it go?
Was it successful?
236 [Sophanara DY]
00:33:08,960 --> 00:33:11,160
Did you get all of it?
237 [Sophanara DY]
00:33:12,520 --> 00:33:14,200
OK.
238 [Sophanara DY]
00:33:14,280 --> 00:33:17,200
Sister, please don't leave me alone.
239 [Sophanara DY]
00:33:17,280 --> 00:33:22,000
I'll probably start packing
on the 12th or 13th.
240 [Sophanara DY]
00:33:22,080 --> 00:33:27,920
And then I'd like to visit you
as we haven't spoken for a long time.
241 [Sophanara DY]
00:33:29,280 --> 00:33:31,480
How does that sound?
242 [Sophanara DY]
00:33:31,560 --> 00:33:33,640
Where are you now?
243 [Kavich NEANG / Sophanara DY]
00:33:43,000 --> 00:33:45,160
- Did your neighbour get the money?
- Yes.
244 [Kavich NEANG]
00:33:45,240 --> 00:33:46,360
All of it?
245 [Kavich NEANG]
00:33:47,240 --> 00:33:49,520
So they didn't cheat us?
246 [Sophanara DY]
00:33:49,600 --> 00:33:51,680
Don't get too excited.
247 [Sophanara DY]
00:33:52,680 --> 00:33:55,320
What if they only pay
a few people at first?
248 [Sophanara DY]
00:33:58,000 --> 00:33:59,680
Let's get started.
249 [Kavich NEANG]
00:34:02,520 --> 00:34:06,280
You told me you starred in a movie
when you were young.
250 [Kavich NEANG]
00:34:06,360 --> 00:34:07,960
What was it about?
251 [Sophanara DY]
00:34:08,040 --> 00:34:14,320
No, I wasn't so young.
It was during the 2000s.
252 [Sophanara DY]
00:34:15,120 --> 00:34:21,720
It starred Sin Sovanny,
who used to live here.
253 [Sophanara DY]
00:34:21,800 --> 00:34:24,080
Can you tell me about the film?
254 [Sophanara DY]
00:34:24,160 --> 00:34:27,760
It's a long story.
255 [Sophanara DY]
00:34:27,840 --> 00:34:31,560
But I love it.
It's a good movie.
256 [Kavich NEANG / Sophanara DY]
00:34:31,640 --> 00:34:35,040
- What's it about?
- I don't remember the title.
257 [Sophanara DY]
00:34:35,120 --> 00:34:39,080
But it talks about the Pol Pot regime.
258 [Sophanara DY]
00:34:40,160 --> 00:34:42,320
The scene takes place on...
259 [Sophanara DY]
00:34:48,840 --> 00:34:52,400
...17 April 1975.
260 [Kavich NEANG]
00:34:53,240 --> 00:34:54,960
17 April.
261 [Sophanara DY]
00:34:55,040 --> 00:34:58,560
Yes, 17 April 1975.
262 [Sophanara DY]
00:34:58,640 --> 00:35:06,720
On the day
the city of Phnom Penh fell.
263 [Sophanara DY]
00:35:07,360 --> 00:35:09,880
Many people were fleeing
at that time.
264 [Sophanara DY]
00:35:10,640 --> 00:35:14,920
Those who were rich enough
left by plane.
265 [Sophanara DY]
00:35:15,840 --> 00:35:20,480
There was a couple with their son.
266 [Sophanara DY]
00:35:21,040 --> 00:35:23,720
He was 3 years old.
267 [Sophanara DY]
00:35:25,000 --> 00:35:29,280
They took their son to the airport.
268 [Sophanara DY]
00:35:30,000 --> 00:35:34,160
By the time they arrived,
the plane's engine had already started.
269 [Sophanara DY]
00:35:34,240 --> 00:35:39,480
Everyone was afraid
the Khmer Rouge would shoot the plane.
270 [Sophanara DY]
00:35:39,560 --> 00:35:43,720
As the engines started,
the passengers rushed on board.
271 [Sophanara DY]
00:35:44,440 --> 00:35:49,840
There was
lots of pushing and shoving.
272 [Sophanara DY]
00:35:49,920 --> 00:35:52,520
They couldn't hold onto their son.
273 [Sophanara DY]
00:35:53,880 --> 00:36:00,000
After they got on the plane
and the doors were closed,
274 [Sophanara DY]
00:36:00,080 --> 00:36:05,040
the husband and wife
tried to find their son.
275 [Sophanara DY]
00:36:05,120 --> 00:36:07,720
They each thought the other
had taken their son.
276 [Sophanara DY]
00:36:07,800 --> 00:36:10,120
When they looked out of the window,
277 [Sophanara DY]
00:36:10,200 --> 00:36:13,200
they saw their son
standing outside crying.
278 [Sophanara DY]
00:36:13,280 --> 00:36:15,760
But the plane was about to take off.
279 [Uncle of director Kavich NEANG]
00:37:52,720 --> 00:37:55,520
How many people did it take
to get that wardrobe up to the house?
280 [Kimleang SO]
00:37:55,600 --> 00:37:58,040
That one's expensive.
It's hardwood.
281 [Uncle of director Kavich NEANG]
00:37:58,120 --> 00:38:00,400
I'm asking
about the number of people.
282 [Chunnath POK / Uncle of director Kavich NEANG]
00:38:00,480 --> 00:38:03,200
- Four people.
- Four?
283 [Chunnath POK]
00:38:03,960 --> 00:38:05,560
Why?
284 [Uncle of director Kavich NEANG]
00:38:07,400 --> 00:38:09,640
Four people?
285 [Kimleang SO]
00:38:09,720 --> 00:38:11,520
It's hardwood.
286 [Uncle of director Kavich NEANG / Chunnath POK]
00:38:16,000 --> 00:38:18,480
- Did you bring it from the school?
- Yeah.
287 [Uncle of director Kavich NEANG]
00:38:18,560 --> 00:38:21,000
From when you were working
at the Fine Arts school?
288 [Chunnath POK / Kimleang SO]
00:38:21,080 --> 00:38:25,320
- No, it's from the French colonial era.
- You should take it home with you.
289 [Chunnath POK]
00:38:26,560 --> 00:38:30,600
No, better to take
the other one with you.
290 [Kimleang SO]
00:38:32,360 --> 00:38:36,560
Yeah, if you want that black one,
you can take it. I'll give it to you.
291 [Chunnath POK]
00:38:41,400 --> 00:38:45,080
I want to keep this wooden one
for storing my sculptures.
292 [Chunnath POK]
00:39:16,960 --> 00:39:22,440
How much does it cost to transport stuff
from the White Building?
293 [Chunnath POK]
00:39:25,320 --> 00:39:26,920
Yes.
294 [Chunnath POK]
00:39:31,280 --> 00:39:32,880
Sorry?
295 [Chunnath POK]
00:39:34,440 --> 00:39:35,840
I have some.
296 [Chunnath POK]
00:39:35,920 --> 00:39:40,280
Can you come to the White Building's
second staircase at 1pm?
297 [Chunnath POK]
00:39:41,680 --> 00:39:43,360
No.
298 [Chunnath POK]
00:39:43,440 --> 00:39:47,000
Near the end of the White Building,
it's the second staircase.
299 [Chunnath POK]
00:39:56,640 --> 00:40:00,200
His car has a rain cover.
Why didn't he put it up?
300 [Chunnath POK]
00:40:01,320 --> 00:40:03,280
It's too late now.
301 [Kimleang SO]
00:40:11,880 --> 00:40:16,480
He only puts it up
when it's already started raining.
302 [Kimleang SO]
00:40:22,400 --> 00:40:25,560
Why does he wait
till it's started raining?
303 [Kimleang SO]
00:40:27,440 --> 00:40:30,240
If my things are damaged,
he's going to owe me!
304 [Chunnath POK]
00:40:37,280 --> 00:40:40,360
Can you go down
to help cover everything?
305 [Kimleang SO]
00:41:46,640 --> 00:41:48,640
Let's leave this here for now.
306 [Kimleang SO]
00:41:49,320 --> 00:41:51,320
There's too much stuff.
307 [Chunnath POK]
00:41:59,840 --> 00:42:01,840
Visal, can you take this fan?
308 [Chunnath POK]
00:42:05,760 --> 00:42:08,320
The rest is for Kavich to take tomorrow.
309 [Kavich NEANG]
00:42:14,920 --> 00:42:18,360
Dad, how does it feel when you see
your home in such disarray?
310 [Chunnath POK]
00:42:18,440 --> 00:42:24,520
In 1979, this house
had been left empty.
311 [Chunnath POK]
00:42:26,080 --> 00:42:30,240
When we arrived in 1979,
312 [Chunnath POK]
00:42:32,160 --> 00:42:35,200
we fixed the doors
and removed the trash.
313 [Chunnath POK]
00:42:35,280 --> 00:42:38,880
It was knee-deep. There was trash
everywhere in the house.
314 [Chunnath POK]
00:42:40,320 --> 00:42:42,720
The doors were broken,
but we fixed them all.
315 [Kavich NEANG]
00:42:42,800 --> 00:42:46,800
You didn't answer my question.
How do you feel now?
316 [Chunnath POK]
00:42:46,880 --> 00:42:48,720
Son, before you leave,
317 [Chunnath POK]
00:42:48,800 --> 00:42:52,840
you should burn incense
as an offering to this house.
318 [Chunnath POK]
00:42:52,920 --> 00:42:58,080
It's where you grew up and studied.
It's the place that gave you life.
319 [Chunnath POK]
00:42:58,160 --> 00:43:02,080
This house is not far from the hospital
where you were born.
320 [Chunnath POK]
00:43:02,160 --> 00:43:05,680
Even if I can stay in the province,
you're still a city guy.
321 [Chunnath POK]
00:43:06,760 --> 00:43:10,080
Because you were born here in the city.
322 [Chunnath POK]
00:43:11,080 --> 00:43:13,600
So before you leave,
323 [Chunnath POK]
00:43:13,680 --> 00:43:15,400
you should burn incense
to thank this house,
324 [Chunnath POK]
00:43:15,480 --> 00:43:18,400
as it has provided you
with all your knowledge.
325 [Chunnath POK]
00:43:23,920 --> 00:43:28,200
Remember, that knowledge is like
having money in your hands.
326 [Chunnath POK]
00:43:28,280 --> 00:43:34,960
And with this knowledge,
we'll get through this whole situation.
327 [Chunnath POK]
00:43:35,720 --> 00:43:40,080
Unlike some people without knowledge,
328 [Chunnath POK]
00:43:40,160 --> 00:43:44,360
who'd lose everything in the end.
They'd end up poor.
329 [Chunnath POK]
00:43:45,320 --> 00:43:47,840
That's the difference, you see?
330 [Chunnath POK]
00:43:48,600 --> 00:43:51,600
Everything is decided by fate.
331 [Kavich NEANG]
00:43:52,560 --> 00:43:55,960
So, Dad,
how do you feel right now?
332 [Chunnath POK]
00:43:56,040 --> 00:43:59,880
Don't ask me that question.
It'll bring tears to my eyes.
333 [Chunnath POK]
00:43:59,960 --> 00:44:03,040
Whenever anyone asks me that,
I pretend not to hear.
334 [Chunnath POK]
00:44:03,560 --> 00:44:10,000
This was a peaceful place to live.
335 [Chunnath POK]
00:44:10,080 --> 00:44:14,040
It's been trouble-free.
336 [Chunnath POK]
00:44:14,680 --> 00:44:19,320
All my life, I've never had any calls
from the police.
337 [Chunnath POK]
00:44:19,400 --> 00:44:23,160
Even with all the rumours about
this place, I've lived here in peace.
338 [Chunnath POK]
00:44:24,080 --> 00:44:28,360
I only have a problem with my health.
That's hard to live with.
339 [Chunnath POK]
00:44:34,640 --> 00:44:37,040
Can you take this bottle of water down?
340 [Chunnath POK]
00:44:37,840 --> 00:44:39,240
Maybe not.
341 [Chunnath POK]
00:44:39,320 --> 00:44:42,480
If not, leave it here.
We'll drink it tonight.
342 [Chunnath POK]
00:44:45,440 --> 00:44:52,800
In life, we're used to seeing a house
for its roof, windows, and walls.
343 [Chunnath POK]
00:44:52,880 --> 00:44:57,000
But in the end,
as we move out of here...
344 [Chunnath POK]
00:44:57,800 --> 00:45:00,000
It breaks my heart.
345 [Chunnath POK]
00:45:04,080 --> 00:45:07,280
Where's my sculpture?
I just put it here.
346 [Chunnath POK]
00:45:07,360 --> 00:45:10,280
Oh, it's in here.
347 [Chunnath POK]
00:45:12,120 --> 00:45:14,480
Can you take that chair?
348 [Sandap SUOS]
00:49:29,480 --> 00:49:34,520
And now I'd like to sing a song called
"River of Lost Love",
349 [Sandap SUOS]
00:49:34,600 --> 00:49:37,760
originally sung
by Ms Ros Sereysothea.
350 [Sandap SUOS / Kavich NEANG]
00:49:39,240 --> 00:49:41,400
- Is it OK like that?
- Yes, it's fine.
351 [Sandap SUOS / Kavich NEANG]
00:49:43,360 --> 00:49:46,120
- Can you count me in?
- One, two, three!
352 [Sandap SUOS]
00:49:46,200 --> 00:49:49,640
My beating, loving heart
353 [Sandap SUOS]
00:49:49,720 --> 00:49:53,480
Swore that we'd never part
354 [Sandap SUOS]
00:49:54,000 --> 00:49:59,200
But what a pity, what torment
355 [Sandap SUOS]
00:49:59,720 --> 00:50:02,560
We have been torn apart
356 [Sandap SUOS]
00:50:03,280 --> 00:50:06,640
As life flows by
357 [Sandap SUOS]
00:50:07,160 --> 00:50:10,720
May the tides of time be my witness
358 [Sandap SUOS]
00:50:11,320 --> 00:50:17,560
I miss my love more than I can say
359 [Sandap SUOS]
00:50:17,640 --> 00:50:20,880
And I would never forget him
360 [Sandap SUOS]
00:50:21,480 --> 00:50:25,600
Oh! My tears, they flow
361 [Sandap SUOS]
00:50:26,200 --> 00:50:30,760
And with my tears comes the hope
362 [Sandap SUOS]
00:50:31,360 --> 00:50:35,920
That these tears
363 [Sandap SUOS]
00:50:36,520 --> 00:50:42,760
Have sealed my destiny
364 [Sandap SUOS]
00:50:43,520 --> 00:50:47,240
I have cried a river of tears
365 [Sandap SUOS]
00:50:47,800 --> 00:50:51,520
And cried out for you every day
366 [Sandap SUOS]
00:50:52,320 --> 00:50:58,440
Bright, blue tears
have flooded my heart
367 [Sandap SUOS]
00:50:58,960 --> 00:51:03,680
And we have been torn apart
368 [Kavich NEANG]
00:51:05,960 --> 00:51:08,520
Thank you very much, Auntie.
You sing so beautifully.
369 [Sandap SUOS]
00:51:08,600 --> 00:51:11,040
Even without a microphone?
370 [Sandap SUOS]
00:51:11,120 --> 00:51:13,960
I may be poor,
but my life is happy.
371 [Sandap SUOS]
00:51:14,040 --> 00:51:16,040
On some comedy shows,
they say,
372 [Sandap SUOS]
00:51:16,120 --> 00:51:18,120
"I want to be as happy
as poor people."
373 [Sandap SUOS]
00:51:18,200 --> 00:51:20,200
They dance and sing, you know?
374 [Sandap SUOS]
00:51:20,280 --> 00:51:23,680
While some rich people
always worry about being robbed.
375 [Sandap SUOS]
00:51:23,760 --> 00:51:25,760
Whenever I'm at a wedding party,
376 [Sandap SUOS]
00:51:25,840 --> 00:51:28,840
I sing with all my energy
and dance, like the cha-cha!
377 [Sandap SUOS]
00:51:28,920 --> 00:51:33,040
Some people say I'm poor,
but I'm not sad. How could I be?!
378 [Kavich NEANG]
00:51:34,000 --> 00:51:37,680
Do you know
how to choreograph your singing?
379 [Sandap SUOS]
00:51:37,760 --> 00:51:40,360
I do, but I'm too shy to do it.
380 [Kavich NEANG]
00:51:40,880 --> 00:51:44,160
Can you show me, please?
The door's closed.
381 [Sandap SUOS]
00:51:44,240 --> 00:51:46,880
That's OK, but I'm shy about...
382 [Kavich NEANG]
00:51:46,960 --> 00:51:50,520
Imagine one day
I'm casting for an actress.
383 [Sandap SUOS / Kavich NEANG]
00:51:51,360 --> 00:51:53,160
- Casting?
- Yes.
384 [Sandap SUOS / Kavich NEANG]
00:51:53,240 --> 00:51:56,040
- OK.
- But if you're this shy, what would I do?
385 [Sandap SUOS]
00:51:56,120 --> 00:51:58,160
That's different. I'd be on stage!
386 [Sandap SUOS]
00:51:58,240 --> 00:52:02,200
Like the song "Rowing a Boat
by the River", you know?
387 [Sandap SUOS]
00:52:02,280 --> 00:52:04,320
Singing partly while performing.
It's a duet, right?
388 [Sandap SUOS]
00:52:04,400 --> 00:52:06,800
We're rowing a boat on the river
389 [Sandap SUOS]
00:52:06,880 --> 00:52:09,800
Are you being true to me?
390 [Sandap SUOS]
00:52:09,880 --> 00:52:14,080
If that's so,
I would hope to have you
391 [Sandap SUOS]
00:52:14,160 --> 00:52:19,520
Don't be like a star shining from afar
It's hard to believe in you, darlin'
392 [Sandap SUOS]
00:52:19,600 --> 00:52:22,520
See? It's better to perform
while you sing!
393 [Sandap SUOS]
00:52:23,880 --> 00:52:27,600
Honestly, you've got to have talent.
If not, you can't do it well.
394 [Sandap SUOS]
00:52:27,680 --> 00:52:30,920
You can't sing on stage
if you don't have talent.
395 [White Building Resident 12, unnamed / Sandap SUOS]
00:52:32,040 --> 00:52:34,560
- Why aren't you packing?
- My nephew, he already left.
396 [White Building Resident 12 / Sandap SUOS]
00:52:34,640 --> 00:52:37,720
- Where did he go?
- He went to live in Srah Chork.
397 [Sandap SUOS]
00:52:39,480 --> 00:52:43,840
I have to finish my work
to pay the deposit for my new place.
398 [White Building Resident 12 / Sandap SUOS]
00:52:43,920 --> 00:52:47,160
- In Srah Chork?
- Yes, we're all moving there.
399 [White Building Resident 12 / Sandap SUOS]
00:52:47,240 --> 00:52:49,240
- What about you?
- I don't know!
400 [Sandap SUOS]
00:52:49,320 --> 00:52:51,440
I don't have enough money.
401 [Sandap SUOS]
00:52:51,520 --> 00:52:54,280
I've only got $2.50 in my pocket.
What can I do?
402 [White Building Resident 12 / Sandap SUOS]
00:52:54,360 --> 00:52:56,680
- When are you leaving?
- Not sure. Maybe tomorrow.
403 [Sandap SUOS]
00:52:56,760 --> 00:52:59,440
Or the day after. I might borrow
some money from my friends.
404 [White Building Resident 12]
00:52:59,520 --> 00:53:00,920
What about your landlord?
405 [Sandap SUOS]
00:53:01,000 --> 00:53:03,000
They're only letting me stay
till the 10th.
406 [Sandap SUOS]
00:53:03,080 --> 00:53:06,080
If I don't move then,
they'll throw my things out.
407 [White Building Resident 12 / Sandap SUOS]
00:53:06,160 --> 00:53:07,760
- Isn't that tomorrow?
- Yes.
408 [Sandap SUOS]
00:53:07,840 --> 00:53:10,600
But I want to stay
for the farewell party.
409 [Sandap SUOS]
00:53:10,680 --> 00:53:13,720
I want to see the Minister
when he comes to the party.
410 [Sandap SUOS]
00:53:13,800 --> 00:53:15,800
Maybe he'll help me
find a better house.
411 [White Building Resident 12 / Sandap SUOS]
00:53:15,880 --> 00:53:17,320
- You've not met him?
- No.
412 [Sandap SUOS]
00:53:17,400 --> 00:53:19,400
I'm kidding.
I wouldn't dare see him.
413 [Sandap SUOS]
00:53:19,480 --> 00:53:23,160
I think it'll be hard
since others will want to see him too.
414 [Sandap SUOS]
00:53:23,240 --> 00:53:25,240
I'm just talking nonsense.
415 [White Building Resident 12]
00:53:26,160 --> 00:53:28,640
When he arrives,
you should go straight to him.
416 [Sandap SUOS]
00:53:28,720 --> 00:53:32,120
No, I doubt it would be that easy.
417 [White Building Resident 12]
00:53:34,760 --> 00:53:36,960
We're running out of time.
418 [White Building Resident 13, unnamed]
00:54:02,960 --> 00:54:05,160
Lift it up a bit.
419 [White Building Resident 13]
00:54:08,240 --> 00:54:09,960
More.
420 [White Building Resident 14, unnamed]
00:54:15,520 --> 00:54:17,440
Are you filming him
breaking the door down?
421 [Kavich NEANG / White Building Resident 14]
00:54:17,520 --> 00:54:19,600
- Yes.
- Don't.
422 [White Building Resident 15, unnamed / White Building Resident 14]
00:54:19,680 --> 00:54:23,520
- You can film. It's OK.
- It looks so ugly.
423 [White Building Resident 15]
00:54:23,600 --> 00:54:26,400
It's fine.
He's filmed here before.
424 [White Building Resident 14]
00:54:26,480 --> 00:54:29,520
But it doesn't look great
with us breaking the doors down.
425 [Kavich NEANG]
00:54:31,200 --> 00:54:33,200
It's a documentary.
426 [White Building Resident 14]
00:54:37,840 --> 00:54:41,920
Sure, but we look so ugly.
427 [White Building Resident 14]
00:54:42,000 --> 00:54:45,880
Breaking something,
it's not a nice scene to see.
428 [White Building Resident 16, unnamed]
00:55:10,560 --> 00:55:13,160
Is it budging?
429 [White Building Resident 16]
00:55:14,640 --> 00:55:16,120
The crowbar?
430 [White Building Resident 16]
00:55:16,200 --> 00:55:17,600
Where is it?
431 [White Building Resident 16]
00:55:18,400 --> 00:55:20,320
Dad, where is it?
432 [Sandap SUOS]
00:57:16,080 --> 00:57:18,520
You know what I'm doing?
433 [Sandap SUOS]
00:57:19,760 --> 00:57:25,120
I'm making gift bags.
434 [Sandap SUOS]
00:57:26,200 --> 00:57:31,480
Here, you hold it with two handles.
435 [Sandap SUOS]
00:57:32,480 --> 00:57:36,080
First, you need to fold it like this.
436 [Sandap SUOS]
00:57:37,480 --> 00:57:39,880
Sometimes people don't get
what I'm doing.
437 [Sophanara DY]
01:01:31,280 --> 01:01:34,320
We probably will never
see the shape of it.
438 [Sophanara DY]
01:01:37,160 --> 01:01:41,040
When we hear its name,
all we can do is miss it.
439 [Sophanara DY]
01:01:41,720 --> 01:01:44,080
We'll never see it again.
440 [Sophanara DY]
01:01:55,640 --> 01:01:57,640
I pray...
441 [Brosleap CHET]
01:04:42,160 --> 01:04:44,200
All the time we spent together
442 [Brosleap CHET]
01:04:45,160 --> 01:04:48,160
You taught me what love is
443 [Brosleap CHET]
01:04:49,080 --> 01:04:52,480
But now I don't know where you are
444 [Brosleap CHET]
01:04:53,680 --> 01:04:57,040
Don't you know
how much I miss you?
445 [Brosleap CHET]
01:04:58,080 --> 01:05:00,440
Like a star shining from afar
446 [Brosleap CHET]
01:05:01,000 --> 01:05:04,360
One that's just out of reach
447 [Brosleap CHET]
01:05:05,000 --> 01:05:08,360
Though you lower yourself
down towards me
448 [Brosleap CHET]
01:05:09,240 --> 01:05:13,600
We will still never meet
449 [Brosleap CHET]
01:05:15,000 --> 01:05:17,640
I'll always remember you
450 [Brosleap CHET]
01:05:17,720 --> 01:05:21,000
Leaving your kisses
451 [Brosleap CHET]
01:05:22,840 --> 01:05:27,760
Seeing your smiling face
452 [Brosleap CHET]
01:05:30,480 --> 01:05:33,040
And hearing your voice
453 [Brosleap CHET]
01:05:33,120 --> 01:05:35,880
Saying you'll only love me
454 [Brosleap CHET]
01:05:36,400 --> 01:05:39,600
But now where can I find you?
455 [Brosleap CHET]
01:05:40,520 --> 01:05:44,000
Are you never coming back to me?
456 [Brosleap CHET]
01:05:45,560 --> 01:05:48,120
I still need you
457 [Brosleap CHET]
01:05:49,280 --> 01:05:52,240
Wanna be close to you
458 [Brosleap CHET]
01:05:54,480 --> 01:05:56,840
I'll be waiting for you until I die
459 [Brosleap CHET]
01:05:57,360 --> 01:06:00,440
I gave you my heart,
and there's nothing left
460 [Brosleap CHET]
01:06:00,520 --> 01:06:03,000
Sorry for being obsessed
461 [Brosleap CHET]
01:06:04,440 --> 01:06:07,480
So obsessed I've fallen for you
462 [Brosleap CHET]
01:06:08,960 --> 01:06:11,360
Thank you for loving me
463 [Brosleap CHET]
01:06:11,960 --> 01:06:15,440
And taking care of me too
464 [Brosleap CHET]
01:06:18,240 --> 01:06:21,360
Your love means everything
465 [Brosleap CHET]
01:06:33,480 --> 01:06:37,040
Your love means everything
